Pinchord Hardware
If you are looking to buy a board for Pinchord, here are some commercially-available boards I'd recommend:
For the page about fitting Pinchord around key constraints, see Pinchord Hardware Constraints
Prices in USD
See https://plover.wiki/index.php/Supported_hardware for pictures of some of these but they aren't licensed ._.
Recommendation
Starboard (https://stenography.store).
- Price: $115 + tax and shipping
- Supports Javelin
- Cons: Only has 2 rows. If you need a board with qwerty support, or a better board for gaming, you may want one of the qwerty boards below
QWERTY Boards
Boards with a third row that you can also use for QWERTY, gaming, etc.:
All of these support Javelin:
- Jarne at ~$350 + shipping
- Polyglot at $125 (+ tax/shipping?)
- Multisteno at $170 (+ tax/shipping?)
Non-QWERTY Boards
Boards with only 2 rows - all of these support Javelin:
- Ecosteno at $95-$135 + tax and shipping
- Picosteno and Uni (Do not have the
_key. They work fine, but I wouldn't recommend buying one for Pinchord specifically) - Asterisk at $50 (+ tax/shipping?) - Uses captivate touch, meaning the board has no keys. Also does not have
_, would not recommend for Pinchord specifically
Other boards
If your board supports embedded steno, you can use Javelin, otherwise any compatible board can be used with Plover. Javelin runs directly on the keyboard but requires at least ~8-16mb of flash memory to run.
Any keyboard with NKRO that you can comfortably press vertical combos and horizontal combos on your index and pinky fingers can work with Pinchord if it has enough keys. See the Pinchord Hardware Constraints page for more info.
See Setting up Pinchord for instructions on how to set up your keyboard for Pinchord :)
