A Pinchord Ticket (Completed):
Ticket · History
Closed, mods were added in pinchord-1 v28, see Pinchord Changelog.
Symptom
Pinchord has no way to write numbers, symbols, movement, or modifiers/shortcuts.
Problem
Pinchord fails to meet its goal of being practical for everyday computer use, as there is no built-in way to write numbers, symbols, movement, or modifiers.
Solution
As mods are something everybody needs, they are part of the scope of what should be included by default in Pinchord, and not deferred to the user.
Graphic of what the mods look like:
Implementation
A cross-platform JSON dictionary, generated using a script in the Pinchord repo.
Since v28.1, this is generated with
generate-mods.clj:)
Breakages
Adding a mods dictionary doesn't break any part of Pinchord's base.
For several updates, 5 starter chords have been reserved for mods, but have been unused. While people could have been using these chords, they have been reserved and meant for mods.
Side Effects
Adding a mods dictionary increases update maintenance, and shifts focus away from the core layout. 4-8+ chords are taken that can't be used for anything else anymore.
